Ben’s Traditional Fish & Chips
About This Spot
Nestled amid the lively hum of London’s Shaftesbury Avenue, Ben’s Traditional Fish & Chips offers a welcoming pause from the city’s fast pace. Stepping inside, the space embraces you with a straightforward, unpretentious charm—a refuge where the rhythm slows just enough to savor something timeless. The atmosphere carries a warmth that feels both familiar and inviting, as if you’ve found a local spot cherished by those who appreciate honest, carefully prepared food.
Here, the focus is on the essence of a British classic—the golden, crisp batter giving way to tender, flaky fish paired with hearty, well-textured chips. The fare feels thoughtfully made rather than rushed, perfectly suited to the spot’s mix of tourists and locals seeking a comforting, satisfying meal. The menu hints at simple pleasures beyond the iconic fish, including fresh salads and approachable extras, all served with a friendly attentiveness that enhances the relaxed, no-fuss mood.
Ben’s feels like the kind of place where you can step away from the bustle and settle into something honest—a meal that satisfies with gentle confidence rather than spectacle. Whether braving the chill of an overcast London afternoon or wrapping up a busy day exploring the West End, it’s a cheerful stop to enjoy food that feels grounded in tradition but made with care.

A very simple basic fish and chips served! Good enough for someone who wants to try the British Fish and Chips. Price is slightly on a higher side but since it is located in the prime tourist area, so it is still reasonable. Try the haddock fish, it taste nicer and more delicious than cod!

I came across this restaurant and decided to come in for a meal as the review of the fish and chip is great. Ordered a recommended fish and tried. I would say this meal is really great and worth the cost because is filling!! Enjoyed in a coldzy weather.

Everything was excellent from start to finish. The food was freshly prepared, full of flavor and perfectly cooked. The service was fast, polite and well organized, making the whole experience even better. The atmosphere felt warm and welcoming, ideal for enjoying a traditional London meal. Prices were fair for the quality offered. We truly enjoyed our visit and will definitely come back on our next trip!

The batter was intensely crispy and light, not greasy at all. Inside, the fish was perfectly cooked—incredibly moist, flaky, and tender, exactly what you hope for in this classic dish. The accompanying chips were golden brown and properly textured, serving as a great side.

Probably the best fish & chips I’ve had on my trip to London compared to other spots around SoHo. I just ordered their traditional fish & chips with a beer. The fish was fried perfectly and it’s not too battered which I loved. The tartar sauce and mayo was on point. It was a delicious meal and customer service was excellent! I’d definitely come back here again to try their other menu items.

I tried fish and chips for the first time at this spot in London, and it was genuinely great. The fish was fresh, nice and crispy, and the chips were cooked really well. The staff were friendly, and they even gave me a complimentary bowl of fruits in juice, which was a lovely surprise. Great place to try authentic English fish and chips!

Good fish and chips GBP16.50 for cod. Tasty firm fresh fish. Oil isn't overused or rancid like some places I've been. Fast friendly service no frills honest good food.
